My First 48 Hours in Greece...

My first post--

The fantastic thing is that there is wifi in his apartment so I am totally available to blog, email and Skype!!! (Thank you neighbor who allows me to surf on his connection for free).

On my first day we zipped around Peiraias on George's bike!! It was still warm then, but now it's getting  cold...I am trying to look cute but all these coats and sweaters are making that impossible.

He lives right by the water...

I have a blackberry with me (if you didn't know-- my beloved iPhone fell in the toilet) So I'm trying to learn how to do the BBM-- 'blackberry messaging' thing.  Is it wrong to say that having a Blackberry just makes me miss my iPhone more!??  We are 10 hours ahead so if you want to get at me it would have to be early in the morning or late at night I think.

This is me with George's sister Aliki...at Flo Cafe (it's the Starbucks of Greece)

So far it's been really good.  I got "interrogated" by my friend Ally on gmail chat yesterday--

ALLY:  "Is it weird?"  "What's going on?"  "How are you feeling?"

**I'm sure others would like to know as well, but lack Ally's tenacity, so here it goes...

So far, being with someone who I've actually only hung out with for 3 days on a wedding/vacation in Greece in August, then subsequently Skyped with for 4 months has been... (drum roll, please)
super easy.

The largest adjustment was the first 10 minutes into meeting each other.  At the airport, it was like "Wow, this is really you..." BTW: they played Eat Pray Love on the Plane...how's that for irony.   OK not really irony... but you know what I mean.

Seriously. It's been super easy.  Check in with me after a week-- maybe 2 weeks... we might hate each other by then.  (I hope not)

I went to George's aunt's house today, I think she is in her 80's.  She's very lively, I met her at Dean & Anita's wedding. Her name is thea (aunt) Chrisoula, I like that lady!!!  She cooked lunch for us: bread with cheese, pasta with Parmesan with pork stew, salad, chicken with potatoes, table wine and pork chops! Really, 3 meats?!!  Anyway, it was so great to look through her album and see my friends, Dean & Aníta!  Dean's father was thea Chrisoula's sister. Also, I got to see "teenage" Dean in another family photo, very cute...!!

Today we had some snow flurries...  YES, SNOW IN GREECE! So no more zipping around the city on the back of George's bike. I'm still kind of adjusting to the time difference.  I think it's because I didn't sleep that much on the plane ride over :-)

A friendly reminder: This is a friends/family blog... let's keep comments tasteful!!!

  3. hahahahha!! Thank you for the name and shame! What can I say? I am choosing to live vicariously on Your Big Fat Greek Christmas. You should absolutely keep a diary by the way, who knows, the next Eat Pray Love?
Glad it's been easy so far, I mirror the other sentiments in saying that you more than deserve this. Do not stress the small stuff and enjoy every moment, even the peculiar ones! (Peculiar is always funnier in anecdotal form anyway!).
Wishing you love and peace of mind...
    Till the next interrogation.
